TGPU-C bans hunting, fishing from April 1

DIMAPUR:

Tesophenyu Group Public Union (Central) (TGPU-C) has notified that in line with conventional practices and resolutions adopted at its meeting, an immediate ban has been imposed on all forms of hunting, fishing, trapping and felling of trees within the territorial jurisdiction of Tesophenyu, with effect from April 1, 2026, until further notice.
In a press release, TGPU-C informed that the ban was enforced to protect and conserve the rich biodiversity, prevent depletion of fish stocks and wildlife population, and ensure sustainable ecological balance for future generations.
The union further prohibited the use of chemicals, explosives, batteries, firearms, traps or any method of hunting wild animals and birds, as well as fishing in water bodies. TGPU-C cautioned that violators would face strict action including fines, confiscation of equipment and possible imprisonment as per law.
