In a remarkable journey of endurance and exploration, two adventure enthusiasts arrived in Nagaland after a 30 day cross-country road trip in a vintage flat-fender jeep, traveling from Kerala through several Indian states and even briefly into Bhutan. The duo Renbenthung C. Odyuo, 30, from Wokha, Nagaland, and Yaseen, 30, from Wayanad, Kerala were warmly welcomed by the Nagaland Flatfenders Club (NFC) at a gathering in Indisen village, Trinity tower, Dimapur on Tuesday.
Their journey, which began in Kerala, took them through Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Bhutan, and Assam before finally reaching Nagaland. Despite being unplanned, the expedition served a deeper purpose, to foster cultural bonding between South India and the Northeast and to showcase unexplored parts of Nagaland to the world.
Renbenthung, known online through his YouTube channel Renny Vlogs with over 86,000 subscribers, emphasized that their journey aimed to highlight how people from different cultures can connect and blend through shared experiences. He expressed excitement about continuing their exploration within Nagaland, including areas like Peren, Khonoma, Mokokchung, and other lesser-known districts.
He said that there are many unexplored regions in Nagaland that deserve attention, pointing out the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of the state. He also urged local communities to preserve their environment and traditions, as visitors from across India increasingly seek out peaceful and nature-rich destinations like Nagaland.
Yaseen, a seasoned traveler with experience in over 30 countries and the creator of the popular YouTube channel Yaseen Vlogs with more than 1 million subscribers, shared his deep appreciation for Nagaland. On his third visit to the state, he described it as one of his favorite places in India due to the unmatched hospitality and warmth of its people. He also noted that some misconceptions about Nagaland still persist in parts of South India, but his personal experiences have helped change those views.
He remarked that everyone should visit Nagaland at least once in their lifetime, praising the authenticity and beauty of the region.
The two have managed to balance travel, content creation, and community interaction, driven by a shared passion for exploration. Their vintage 2007-model jeep, which they customized in Kerala with great care, has become a symbol of their journey’s grit and soul.
Yaseen also took the opportunity to encourage youth to stay away from drugs and instead seek adventure through travel. “There’s a thrill in exploring new places that no substance can replace,” he added.
The arrival of the two adventurers was celebrated by the NFC, whose members share a passion for classic jeeps. Secretary General of NFC Dr. Andrew Ahoto, lauded the pair’s accomplishment and acknowledged the inspiration they bring to the wider flat-fender community. A 70-year-old fully functional jeep was showcased during the event, symbolizing the strength of both machine and human spirit.
Although club president John Longkumer could not attend, the gathering drew enthusiastic participation from jeep lovers across the region. A token of appreciation was presented to the duo in recognition of their dedication, courage, and role in promoting Nagaland’s identity to a broader audience.
With another 15 days of exploration planned within Nagaland, the adventurers hope to uncover more hidden gems and inspire others to appreciate the cultural and ecological richness of the region.
