NSCN (Reformation) kilo (home) kilonser Iheshe Aye on Friday categorically stated that “there is only one NSCN (Reformation) and there will be only one even in the future.”
Addressing media persons at Thilixu village, he said the group wanted to clarify about the confusion in public domain with regard to Akato-led NSCN/GPRN, which was also claiming to be NSCN (Reformation).
Narrating the genesis of how Akato Chophi had led a group in November 2021 and split from the NSCN (R) under Wangtin Naga and ato kilonser P Tikhak, Aye maintained that since 2015, Nagas had recognized the leadership of Wangtin and Tikhak and even the Central government had recognised the leadership and signed the ceasefire and has been part of Working Committee of NNPGs.
However, he said Akato’s group was yet to sign the ceasefire agreement with the Centre.
After splitting from NSCN (R), he said Akato-led group had declared that it was not part of NNPGs and would be a separate entity, which the Nagas were well aware of.
He thus asserted that there was only one NSCN (R) under the leadership of Wangtin and Tikhak, who were the pioneers and founders of the group. He also reminded that both Wangtin and Tikhak were also among the founding members of WC, NNPGs led by convener N Kitovi Zhimomi.
He said it was unfortunate that Akato’s group was now claiming to have the hold of NSCN (R).
He claimed that this was the third time the group was clarifying through media that there was only one NSCN (R) and there could be no other claim or compromise on this.
Aye maintained that the intention of forming NSCN (R) was to bring about unity and reformation among Nagas and not to serve individual interests.
He mentioned that the NSCN (R) government was functioning smoothly since its establishment, unfortunately former vice-president Akato held a meeting on October 19 and decided to break away.
However, he said an undertaking was signed between Wangtin, Tikhak and Akato on October 22 in presence of NNPGs convener N Kitovi Zhimomi and co-conveners Zhopra Vero and Issac Sumi as witnesses for reconciliation, wherein it was also agreed that if any individual or group violated the agreement, it would face the consequences.
But, Aye said Akato violated the agreement on November 19 when he along with his supporters organised a meeting at his residence and declared himself the president. He said that it was due to this violation of the agreement that the NNPGs decided to expel Akato.
Later, on November 22, they had received an endorsement letter from NNPGs agreeing to the decision of NSCN (R) to expel Akato as the vice-president.
Asked about the claims made by NSCN (Akato) on Friday that it was part of NNPGs, Aye said there was still no official announcement on the matter.
