DIMAPUR, JUL 14 (NPN): State deputy chief minister Y Patton on Tuesday strongly condemned the IED blast at Chümoukedima ‘A’ village that killed an Assam Rifles jawan and injured four others, assuring that those responsible would be identified and brought to justice.
Speaking to reporters at Dimapur Airport before leaving for New Delhi, Patton, who also holds the home portfolio, described Monday’s blast as “very unfortunate” and said the investigation was progressing.
“I strongly condemn the IED bomb blast…we have our agencies on the job, and the matter is under investigation,” he said.
Patton expressed condolences to the family of the slain Assam Rifles personnel and wished the four injured personnel a speedy recovery.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring justice and expressed confidence that ongoing investigation would produce results in the coming days.
Meanwhile, police officials present at the airport appealed to the public not to spread rumours about the incident and urged anyone with credible information to come forward and assist the investigating agencies.
The investigation is being carried out jointly by the Nagaland Police, Assam Rifles, Army authorities and other central agencies.
A forensic team examined the blast site on Monday, while IGP (Range) Jasbir Singh, Commissioner of Police Dimapur and other senior officials revisited the site on Tuesday to review the progress of the probe.
