Over 1300 people of all age groups including children and students in and around Dimapur were screened for various ailments by a team of qualified medical experts from both civil and security forces at a mega free medical camp at DDSC Stadium here Wednesday.
The camp was organized by 32 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 6 Sector AR as part of its 181st Raising Day. People also received free medical aid and medicines.
According to AR official, apart from treating the patients on various ailments, testing on HIV was also conducted during the camp.
Nagaland home minister, Y. Patton, who inaugurated the camp, had his blood pressure checked.
He appreciated the efforts of AR in brining medical facilities at the doorsteps of the local populace of Dimapur and also the adjoining districts. Patton said it was also the state government’s endeavour to organize such initiatives in improving the overall health index in the state.
He also reiterated the state government’s determination “to continue providing an enabling environment” through which Assam Rifles could continue to serve the less fortunate members of the society.
Stating that in the race of life some people did get time to look after their health while some did not have the medical facilities, the home minister said the AR venture at such time indicated their true love and concern for the people.
Further, he lauded the Assam Rifles for their tireless efforts in organizing various activities such as educational tours and training for recruitment rallies into armed force for the youths.
Patton said the activities of the security forces have shown their concern for the welfare of the people apart from their commitment in providing peace and tranquillity in the state.
The home minister also called for more volunteers in donating blood so their noble initiative would benefit hundreds of people during various emergencies.
“Everybody should be part of this noble initiative of blood donation. Help save a life today by donating blood to those in need”, home minister added.
