‘Thousands of suicide bombers ready’, Masood’s fresh audio clip kicks up storm

NEW DELHI, JAN 11 (IANS)

A new audio recording, purportedly featuring Masood Azhar, chief of the banned terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), surfaced online Sunday, sparking outrage on social media.
In the clip, Azhar allegedly boasts of “thousands of bombers on standby” ready to infiltrate and carry out attacks in India. He warns that revealing the “real” number of suicide bombers would shock the global community. “These suicide bombers are not one, not two, not 100, not even 1,000. If I tell the full number, there will be an uproar in the world’s media tomorrow,” he reportedly says. Azhar claims his followers are motivated not by material comforts but are prepared for ‘shahadat’ (martyrdom) in pursuit of their goals.
Masood Azhar, a UN-designated terrorist, has long plotted attacks against India from Pakistani soil. He is a prime accused in several terror incidents, including the 2001 Parliament attack and the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
The date and authenticity of the audio could not be independently verified. Analysts say the warnings appear to be propaganda, possibly aimed at bolstering JeM’s influence after setbacks, including heavy losses inflicted by Indian forces during Operation Sindoor. This recording adds to a history of Azhar issuing threats and attempting to instill fear, reflecting his continued intent to target India despite international sanctions and counter-terror measures.
