Threat of division of Manipur from state govt itself: Therie

Former minister K Therie said the “threat of division of Manipur is by Manipur Govt itself and not from any neighbours or foreigners”. Therie alleged that the state government had completely failed to calculate or read the impact of launching ethnic cleansing of Kuki-Zo and Christians. In view of the disgusting episode spanning over 110 days, he opined that it was not possible to restore trust and confidence.

Without trust and confidence, there could be no family, he stressed. With the Manipur government refusing to own moral responsibility, coupled with having no formula to restore peace and understanding, Therie mentioned that the only option left to thinkers was to oblige the demand of the Kuki-Zo community for a separate administration, which meant either Union Territory or Statehood.

Asserting that minorities could not continue to live under suppression, he pointed out that humankind’s coexistence revolved around the right formula of majority and minority living together in unity and diversity. While the majority was expected to shower affection on the minorities, he stated that the minorities rendered their respect to majority.

He declared that a brutish majority violating human rights and religious rights was not acceptable in democracy. “Since feelings of hate and mistrust have replaced affection and respect, all right-thinking people who wish to restore human-rights and peace, can only think of a separate administration,” he emphasised.
