Three women on their morning walk were critically injured in Bihar’s Motihari early Friday morning when a speeding car ran over them. The tragic incident occurred around 4 a.m. near the local auditorium in the Rajabazar area, under the Nagar police station’s jurisdiction.
Eyewitnesses and police sources reported that the vehicle first collided with a tree, then an electric pole, before striking the victims – Priyanka Singh (34), her daughter Shreya Kumari (14), and Priyanka’s sister-in-law, Renu Devi. All three, members of Shashi Ranjan Singh’s family from the Nagar police station area, were rushed to Rehmania Medical Centre by locals and are reported to be in critical condition.
In a dramatic turn, the car’s driver, Rupesh Kumar (25), son of Om Prakash Gupta from Chandmari, was also critically injured and is receiving treatment at the same hospital. During their investigation, police discovered that Rupesh had been stabbed by his nephew, Alok Kumar, following a personal dispute, prior to the accident. Despite his injuries, Rupesh attempted to drive himself to the hospital but lost control of the vehicle, leading to the collision.
Alok Kumar has been arrested and confessed to the stabbing during interrogation, stating, “I made a big mistake when my uncle stopped answering my calls.” The Nagar police station in-charge confirmed that preliminary findings indicate the accident was caused by the driver’s inability to control the car due to his stab wounds and weakened state.
A detailed investigation into both the stabbing and the circumstances surrounding the crash is currently underway. Doctors at Rehmania Medical Centre are doing everything possible to save the victims, but the condition of all four remains critical. The incident has deeply shocked Motihari, highlighting concerns about personal disputes escalating into public tragedies and the need for enhanced early morning traffic monitoring and public safety measures.
