The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre Kohima has issued weather warnings for multiple districts in Nagaland, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall over the next four days starting July 28.
According to the district-wise bulletin released on July 27, IMD has placed several districts, including Kohima, Tuensang, Wokha, Zunheboto, and Mon, under varying levels of alert.
Kohima is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places between July 28 to July 31.
IMD has issued five-day yellow alert for Peren, Dimapur and Kohima districts, which is expected to experience thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places from July 28 to July 31.
Wokha is also likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rain very likely at isolated places, particularly on July 28 and 31.
For Zunheboto, the IMD forecasted thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places on July 28 and 30. Similar weather conditions are expected in districts such as Kiphire, Mokokchung, Mon, and Tuensang on July 28, while no alert has been issued for Longleng.
Citizens, especially in vulnerable regions, have been urged to take precautionary measures and avoid outdoor activities during periods of intense weather.
