The Tikhir Union Kohima (TUK), in collaboration with the Tikhir Women Union Kohima and Tikhir Students Union Kohima, organized a cultural programme on October 11, at Tsiesema Basa, Kohima. The event was held under the theme “Poji Vichit Shin Alokshimti,” with Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister, Kiusumong Tikhir, as the special guest.
In his address, Kiusumong emphasized the importance of cultural preservation in the face of rapid societal changes. He highlighted the value of traditional handicrafts and the significance of weaving practices among womenfolk, urging the community to uphold and promote these cultural expressions.
The programme featured a special song performance by the band ‘Tikhir Sisters’ and cultural song presentations by the three organizing unions.
A variety of traditional activities were showcased, including traditional car racing, Tikhir cuisine competition, bamboo stilt racing, rice pounding, catapult shooting, cotton yarning, tug of war, and folk dance.
