Naga Hoho (NH) has reiterated the urgency of resolving the long-standing Naga political issue, urging the Naga people to seize the current opportunity for a final settlement.
In a statement, NH president Sulanthung Lotha said that the organization emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have assured their commitment to resolving the issue at the earliest.
Recalling a missed opportunity in 1965, Naga Hoho stated that Nagas were in a threshold to resolve the Naga issue which they should not let it slip away.
It urged the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) not to let down the people but to take bold and decisive action, either by pressing for a solution or making their stance clear whether they want to resolve the issue or not. NH cited the 213th report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, which recommended the conclusion of Naga peace talks at the earliest.
Therefore, NH appealed to all Nagas to unite in support of early solution to the Naga political issue, stressing that when Central government was showing interest to permanently settle the decades old Indo-Naga political issue: “We should not miss the golden opportunity.” The hoho also highlighted the urgent need for infrastructural and economic development in Naga-inhabited areas, calling for special attention from the Central government.
Additionally, Naga Hoho proposed the formation of a Pan-Naga Cultural and Traditional League or Association, provided other Nagas living in other states voluntarily agree to join the league.
Should other Nagas agree to join, then the constitution and rules may be framed collectively by Naga representatives, NH stated. NH stressed that the greatest dream in the heart of every Naga was for a better future.
