The Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI), Kohima Unit and Ao Nurses Telongjem Kohima (ANTK) have condemned the physical assault on an on-duty nurse at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Tseminyu by a patient’s attendant — Njulo Tep of Tseminyu village — around 11 pm on April 18.
Noting that this was not the first time that such an incident had occurred, TNAI, Kohima Unit president Ketholenuo and secretary Neivotuonuo pointed out that recurrence of these events underscored the urgent need for effective measures to protect healthcare workers.
Expressing concern over the victim’s safety and highlighting the need for swift government intervention, they called upon the authorities to implement adequate security measures and ensure a safe working environment for all healthcare workers across the state, particularly at the victim’s place of posting.
They urged the relevant authorities to take stern action against the accused without any compromise or leniency, ensuring that justice was served and accountability was maintained.
Strongly condemning the physical assault, ANTK president Wt Moangkala and general secretary Alula Walling declared that the act of violence was unacceptable, and demanded immediate attention and action.
They stressed that no individual should face violence for doing their duties, especially those who were committed to saving lives and providing care.
To ensure justice was served and to deter such incident in the future, they urged the authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that those responsible were held fully accountable under the law.
They appealed all right-thinking citizens to join them in condemning this heinous act, and show solidarity with the victim in particular and healthcare professional in general who continued to serve the community under challenging conditions.
