Oriental Theological Seminary (OTS) conducted an advocacy workshop on the ‘Burden of the Tobacco Epidemic on Naga society’, on October 31.
A press release by NTCP stated that Dr C Tetseo, in his presentation said that tobacco had started to take its toll on society and the Church could not afford to remain a mute spectator as this would ultimately lead to spiritual problems.
He also said that the Health department alone cannot counter the aggressive campaign of the tobacco industry targeting youth. In this regard, he pointed out that the Church could play a crucial role from its vantage point.
Dr. C. Tetseo also stated that the students of the college should conduct community awareness programs on tobacco as part of their practical assignments, and he called upon other theological colleges to emulate this initiative. James Khalong, academic dean, chaired the function.
