Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) held an introductory meeting with I&PR, SCERT & Village Guards, Advisor, Toshi Wungtung at the Conference Hall, Directorate of I&PR on April 11.
According to a DIPR report, looking back, the Advisor said he had done researches and had looked for information, reading and writing books and co-authoring.
Stressing on the importance of information, Wungtung said that since the times of ancient civilizations, coordination and information had been among the most basic tools. “All the departments are in need of our service because everyone knows how important it is to be informed and updated. We believe in participative and inclusive governance” he stated.
According to the Advisor, being informed ensures that one’s views are right. He also spoke about the importance of right to right information. Observing that people had been comfortably confined to their own rooms since the arrival of mobiles and computers, he said that the department could contribute to bringing back the community into the important activity of community participation.
“I believe in inclusiveness and participation, which to me is democracy. I&PR is the backbone or the launch pad to strengthen the spirit of democracy. I look for your innovative inputs and co-operation and also look forward to working with you all”, Wungtung stated.
Director I&PR, Limawati Ao, in his welcome address, presented an overview of the department. He highlighted the structural set-up of the Directorate as well as the district offices, the role and activities of the Department and also the changes in priorities of the department during the last several decades since its inception.
Additional Director I&PR, Z. Tokishe Sema chaired the programme while Commissioner & Secretary I&PR, Lithrongla G. Chishi gave the concluding remarks.
