Total blockade begins on Kma-Jessami road

Peaceful total blockade of National Highway-29 (NH-29), imposed by the aggrieved landowners affected by Kohima-Jessami two-lane road construction (packages 2, 3, 4 & 5), commenced at 6am on Thursday.
In a press release, aggrieved landowners convenor Kiiveliiyi Chuzho informed that the blockade would continue. Chuzho said the landowners were awaiting the outcome of a meeting convened by deputy commissioner (DC) Phek with all the stakeholders involved in the damage compensation dispute.
Chuzho said the landowners remained resolute in their demand for the payment of overdue damage compensations, which has been the focal point of their peaceful protest.
He said that the success of blockade and its continuation would depend on the results of the upcoming meeting and the commitments made by the concerned parties to address the unresolved compensation issue. The landowners have reiterated appeal to the commuters to make use of alternative routes to avoid inconveniences along the affected stretch of the NH-29.
The landowners said they were committed to pursuing a just resolution to the damage compensation matter through dialogue and engagement with the authorities.
