Total lockdown a success: CP

Terming the total lockdown of Dimapur district as a success, commissioner of police (CP) Rothihu Tetseo told newsmen that the lockdown was imposed as per the demand of the situation.

Asked whether the total lockdown would continue after April 3, the CP said it all depended on the situation because public safety was more important. He expressed the hope that all citizens would cooperate.

Tetseo informed reporters that in order to enforce the total lockdown an additional 50 men of Special Task Force and one IRB battalion had been deployed.

With regard to the lack of roadmap to implement the lockdown, he said the department had been trying to do its best, but added that participation of the citizens was important. “Unless the citizens participate and cooperate, any amount of security will be difficult,” he stressed. Pointing out that the police personnel were deployed on the frontline risking their lives checking and screening the public, he said the people should extend their cooperation.

The CP said more than 300 persons had been detained and regular cases of more than 35 have been registered and 200 plus non-FIR cases booked till date.

He said 88 vehicles were booked on the first day of the lockdown, adding the police were also checking all vehicles moving under the exemption category.
