Tovihoto stresses on preserving festivals

Maintaining that all the communities in the state were distinct because of their festivals, NIDC Ltd. chairman Tovihoto Ayemi on Friday underscored the need to preserve and practise traditional festivals, which, he said, was their “sole identity”.
He was speaking as the chief guest during Chakan Gaan-Ngai celebration organized by the Rongmei Council Nagaland (RCN), here at Chungaizaeng ground, Burma Camp, Friday.
Stating that traditional festivals were reminders of one’s proud identity and culture, Tovihoto called upon the Nagas to continue to uphold and preserve it.
Deliberating on preserving culture and traditions, Tovihoto cautioned that without culture one would lose their identity and added that Nagas should continue to preserve it as they are primarily known by others for their rich culture and traditions.
Terming Rongmeis as peace loving people, he said that the tribe’s cultural dances were known throughout the country due to its uniqueness.
While expressing happiness on being part of the festival, Tovihoto said festivals were also time for cultural exchange and sharing of one’s joy in the celebrations.
Earlier, the chief guest lighted the traditional Rongmei torch and released a Rongmei Fol song Vol-I, audio album produced by RCN.
Rongmei Council Dimapur (RCD) president Pou Thaban Rongmei delivered the welcome address, Rongmei Naga Peoples’ Organization (RNPO) president highlighted on the significance of the post harvest festival and RCN president pou Chingkhiulung Gonmei proposed the vote of thanks.
Cultural troupes from various places including United North Block, Rongmei Community Diphupar and Peren presented cultural dances, while Thanjikpou presented a folk song. The programme was compered by Lu Gaitangliu Gonmei and Pou Pantigang Kamei.
The later part of the celebration included games and sports and Gaan-Ngai extravaganza nite 2016.
Hundreds of people from various localities in Dimapur, other districts of the state and neighbouring states attended the celebration programme.
