Tenyimi Peoples’ Organization (TPO) has expressed concern over prevailing tensions in parts of Manipur, including Kangpokpi district, and appealed to all communities to uphold peaceful co-existence.
In a statement, TPO president Timikha Koza and general secretary Kathu Rengma urged Nagas and Kukis to remain vigilant while maintaining the long-standing tradition of harmony and mutual respect. It stated that the region’s social and demographic realities required wisdom and restraint, noting that several Naga villages exist in minority areas, just as Kuki villages are located in Naga-dominated regions, including parts of Nagaland.
TPO highlighted the vulnerability of historic Naga villages in Kangpokpi district, including Thangal Surung in Saikul sub-division, along with Tumnoupokpi, Yaikongpao, Daili, Phyapou, Kongpao Liyai, Liyai Kalapahar, Thanamba, Mahika and Tokpa, stressing that their safety, dignity and rights must be respected. Reaffirming its commitment to peace and dialogue, TPO cautioned that it would not remain a silent spectator if any attempt was made to intimidate or forcibly evict Naga villages from ancestral lands. It said such actions would undermine communal harmony and erode trust built over generations.
TPO further called on community leaders, CSOs and citizens to ensure that miscreant elements, particularly youths, do not engage in activities that could disturb peace. Reiterating that dialogue remains the only sustainable path, TPO urged all communities to preserve harmony, protect one another and uphold shared values of dignity and good neighbourliness.
