Deputy chief minister TR Zeliang and Zeliang Students’ Union (ZLSU) have condoled the death of Zeliangrong Baudi (Nagaland) president I Daniel Zeliang after a brief illness.
Stating that he was deeply pained and grieved to learn about the demise of Daniel, the deputy chief minister in a condolence message recalled after 35 long years of service in the Government of Nagaland, Daniel retired as assistant development commissioner (ADC) on October 31, 2021.
Zeliang said after his retirement, Daniel was approached to shoulder the responsibility of the tribe. Despite his many personal responsibilities he accepted the position of the president of Zeliangrong Baudi (Nagaland) and, since then, he had always been very active and at the forefront for the cause of the tribe, he said.
He had a thorough knowledge about the Zeliangrong historical background and the importance for the three brothers Zeme, Liangmai and Rongmei to live together in unity. He strongly professed the ideology and aspirations of former Zeliangrong leaders like Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu to bring Zeliangrong under one administrative umbrella.
According to TR Zeliang, Daniel in his capacity as the president of Zeliangrong Baudi had contributed so much for the cause of unity and also propagated the idea for reestablishment of a common platform like the Zeliangrong People’s Convention (ZPC) where people could come together and strive for a common cause of the people.
“In his death, we have lost a great soul, yet we should take forward his objectives and aspirations he left behind for our people,” the condolence message pointed out.
Noting that Daniel was a man who minced no words when he spoke and put across his ideas and thoughts clearly for the people, TR Zeliang said in his association with him officially under Planning Department and during his short stint as a public leader, he found him to be sincere and outspoken and always ready to selflessly serve the people.
Pointing out that a huge vacuum had been created in his demise, TR Zeliang along with his family members extended their deepest condolence to the bereaved family and all his near and dear ones.
He also prayed that the almighty God gave strength and solace at this time of grief and sorrow, for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
