Traders bandh: Half day closure of shops across Nagaland today

Heeding the call of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) to hold a nationwide traders strike (bharat bandh) on February 18 to protest against the terror attack on security forces in Jammu & Kashmir, various trade bodies of Nagaland have decided to observe a half-day shutter down on February 18.

CNCCI: Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) in support of the ‘bharat bandh’ called by CAIT has decided to observe half day shutter-down on February 18.

In this regard, CNCCI has asked all the district chambers to express their solidarity with the nation and also send out a message that terrorism had no place in society.

According to CNCCI chairman, Dr. Khekugha Muru, pharmacies and educational institutions will be exempted. Further, CNCCI appealed to the public not to be confused as it will be solidarity half day shutter down till noon and not total bandh.

DCCI & EDBA: Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and East Dimapur Business Association (EDBA) have decided to observe half-day shutter down from morning till noon along with Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry .

In this connection DCCI president Akashe Zhimomi and EDBA president Atoka Zhimomi have directed all shops under its jurisdiction to down their shutters from morning till February 18 noon, while medicine shops and educational institutions have been exempted.

Chümoukedima: A joint meeting of Chümoukedima Hindu Society (CHS) headed by its working president, Pintu M Ghosh and Chümoukedima Muslim Committee president Jamal Uddin Choudhary with due consultation of EAC Chümoukedima, Chümoukedima Head GB and Chümoukedima Chamber of Commerce and Trade Association unanimously decided to hold a ‘total trade’ bandh on February 18 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In a press note, CHS general secretary Prakash Chetri stated that the bandh is being organised to express solidarity with the nation and families of the martyrs.

The societies have therefore appealed to all other traders under Chümoukedima Town to unite and join the bharat bandh.

MCCI: Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has also decided to join the nation-wide traders bandh February 18 to show the solidarity of traders with the nation and families of the martyrs of the deadly Pulwama attack in J&K.

In a press note, MCCI president Tsukti Longkumer and general secretary Limalenden Longkumer said all shops and markets, except medicine sellers will remain shut till 12 noon.

WDCCI: Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WDCCI) president Renponthung Ezung stated that traders in Wokha district will be hoisting  black flags in all the shops for one week.

Expressing regret for not being able to join the ‘bharat bandh’, WDCCI said it was a sudden decision to call for a bandh and as such it would be inconvenient for those coming to town for shopping from different villages.

Meanwhile, CAIT president BC Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal reportedly said that the traders will observe a day-long fast and will undertake candlelight marches across different states to pay tribute to martyrs.

Besides, CAIT is also planning to raise funds for the families of the martyred Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans.
