Introduction of commissionerate system in Dimapur with one deputy commissioner of Police (DCP) for traffic regulation, significant changes have been achieved on traffic congestion in Dimapur town.
Public have appreciated the commissioner of Police Dimapur, Liremo Lotha and district administration for their effort in changing the system.
Talking to Nagaland Post at his office chamber Friday, commissioner of Police said the introduction of new traffic system has also helped traffic personnel in regulating the traffic to certain extent.
Under the new system, two zones have been created – Zone I and II divided by Dhansiri Bridge. He said the Zone-I start from Municipal area west of Dhansiri River, that cover the main town while Zone-II starts from Purana Bazaar till Piphema.
Each zone would be under ACP in the rank of DSP while the overall coordination has been entrusted to DCP, who will function from the previous SP office. With the division in traffic, the man power has also been increased, he added.
In Zone –I, at present at total of 272 traffic personnel including 63 home guards have been deputed while in Zone-II, there are 65 personnel including home guards, Liremo said. Before the division in traffic, only 140 personnel including home guards were manning the traffic in the main town.
With regard to deployment of man power in Zone II, which also covers National Highway, Liremo said traffic personnel were deputed in various important points.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police has appealed to the commuters to follow the traffic rules, adding that he had given a clear instruction to the traffic personnel to book those defaulters under Motor Vehicle Act.
