WOKHA, SEP 30 (NPN): The Traffic Control Unit, Wokha intensified its enforcement drive in Wokha town on September 30, conducting surprise checks on two‑wheelers for helmet violations and clamping vehicles parked in restricted areas.
Traffic in‑Charge N. Eyingo Lotha said that despite repeated awareness programmes and warnings, violations of traffic regulations continued to be reported. Several two‑wheeler riders were found without helmets, while some were also carrying passengers beyond the permitted limit.
He informed that first‑time offenders were fined Rs.1,000 and issued warnings, while repeat offenders would face stricter action under applicable provisions of law. Lotha also cautioned parents and those involved in school transportation against carrying children beyond the permitted passenger limit on two‑wheelers.
The traffic official further raised concern over obstructions along the National Highway passing through Wokha town, particularly construction materials dumped along roadsides and vehicles parked improperly. He said a joint inspection by the district administration, police and traffic department had earlier directed those responsible to remove such obstructions.
Lotha warned that enforcement action may be initiated if directives are not complied with, noting that traffic clamps were being used against vehicles parked in restricted areas. He also cautioned the public against underage driving, reminding that it is a punishable offence and warning that violators would face action under the law.
