In view of the road construction work from Mokokchung to Chare via Dikhu river, the deputy commissioner (DC) Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji has restricted movement of vehicles along the said stretch with effect from January 12 until completion and further notice.
In an order, the DC stated that earth cutting work on high rise/steep terrains by deploying machineries and also using explosives would start shortly for widening the existing single-lane road to intermediate lane road from Mokokchung to Chare via Dikhu river by UNC Construction Co Pvt Ltd.
DC said that this was to ensure smooth progress of the work without endangering the safety of travellers, movement of vehicles along the route. Further, to facilitate movement of farmers and MMC sanitation trucks engaged in garbage dumping duty, there would be a window period for vehicular movement between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Saturday.
DC has directed the company to ensure the safety of travellers/public using the road by properly managing traffic flow along the route, besides following all relevant rules of The Explosives Act/Rule, 2008.
The order stated that the company would be solely held responsible for any damage to life and property caused during the course of execution of the work.
Meanwhile, travellers from and to Mokokchung-Tuensang have been advised to take the alternative routes– existing NH-02 (Mokokchung to Chare via Tsutsung-Moalenden-Meyilong) and Mokokchung-Chuchuyimpang-Longmisa-Alisopur-Trongar-NH 02-Tuensang.
