In light of the worsening condition of National Highway-29 at Chainages KM 175.100 and KM 175.350, near the old Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) dumping site, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, has issued an order regulating vehicular movement along the affected stretch in the interest of public safety.
As per the order, LMVs (non-transport) will be allowed to ply from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. under strict regulation and subject to weather conditions. In the event of inclement weather, authorities will immediately impose restrictions without prior notice.
No vehicular movement will be permitted during night hours along the affected section of the highway.
All heavy vehicles, including water tankers, para-military vehicles, compact/mid-size pick-up vehicles, and commercial passenger vehicles, have been restricted from using the affected stretch.
To facilitate movement, the following alternative routes have been notified– Kohima to Dimapur-bound LMVs: via Jotsoma bypass road; Dimapur to Kohima-bound LMVs & HMVs: via Peducha bridge–Tsiesema (10 Mile Road).
Further, all para-military vehicles will be routed through Peducha bridge–Tsiesema route.
DC further stated that the restrictions are aimed at ensuring public safety and enabling the smooth execution of emergency operations and restoration efforts. Any violation of the order will attract legal action under the relevant provisions of law, it added.
