
KVK Kiphire conducted a training programme on “diversified farming practices for doubling farmers’ income” at Ngoromi, Sangtsoze, Thuthuze and Tsungphong villages from December 19 to 22.
A press release by KVK Kiphire stated that, AC, Longmatra, NSRLM, Sepila Sangtam highlighted on value addition of crops like ginger, gooseberry and wild apple and explained on how to make candy as well as gooseberry wine.
Importance of value addition was also imparted to farmers and how it would have impact on their economic growth.
SMS, agro meteorology DAMU, KVK Kiphire, Temjenna Jamir highlighted on crop diversification for better conditions of food security and stated that crop diversification not only played a role in doubling farmers’ income but also acted as one of the main sources in rejuvenating soil, provided crops were selected accordingly during cropping season.
Integrated farming system models such as livestock with crop, fishery with poultry, piggery with fishery and horticulture based farming system was also discussed.
During the training programme, Farm Act 2020 was also highlighted to the participants. A total of 120 farmers attended the training programmes.
