With an aim to create sustainable and income generating avenues, Science and Technology Intervention for North East Region- Technology Facilitation Centre (STINER-TFC) organized a training on “Banana Fibre Value Addition” from July 22 to 26. The training was conducted under the initiative of Prof. Akali Sema Project In-charge STINER-TFC and PVC, NU: SAS, Medziphema Campus.
The training focused on creating awareness on economic importance of banana fibre and various ways in which the fibre can be utilized to generate livelihood through technological intervention. The training was particularly conducted for the beneficiaries of the centre where 20 trainees from across the state participated. Resource persons for the training were Mhasivikho Khutso STINER Staff and Yevito STINER staff.
The participants were given hands on training for extraction of fibre from banana pseudo stem, processing for high quality enhancement and various handicrafts making like tea coasters, table mats, baskets and handbags etc.
Earlier, the introductory session was chaired by Prof. Akali Sema while briefing was given by Imchainla Longkumer, Project Assistant, STINER-TFC, SAS: NU, Medziphema Campus. The training concluded with a valedictory program where certificates were distributed to all the participants and vote of thanks was delivered by Bikram Ghimire , Project Assistant, STINER-TFC, SAS:NU, Medziphema Campus.
