Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Wokha division, Water & Sanitation Support Organisation (WSSO) organised a four-day training on “community level participants under the JJM project” for village council chairman, VDB secretaries and WATSAN members, which got underway on Monday, at WDVCCA multipurpose building hall.
According to a DIPR report, extra assistant commissioner (EAC) Wokha, Yentinngbou lauded the department for organising the programme for village functionaries to sensitise them about the importance of safe water and hygiene, and conservation of water.
He also stated that the programme would remind the village functionaries on their roles and responsibilities such as maintaining and operating after completion of the project.
Yentinngbou stated that the government has targeted to provide safe and functional tap water connections by 2024. In this regard, he urged upon the stakeholders and village functionaries to extend support to implementing agencies for successful completion of the project.
He also appealed to all to understand the value of the project and take ownership and custody to make the project a sustainable one.
In his address, SE PHED, Dimapur, Er. Gwatilo Tep stated that the project was started in the year 2019-2022 and the government has directed to finish the project by 2024.
As per October 15, 2022 status report, the state has achieved 52% of the project, he disclosed.
While congratulating Wokha district for commendable job and achieving 71% functional household tap water connection within the district, he remarked that the district was also ahead of the state percentage.
In this regard, he urged upon the department to continue working with the same commitment and dedication and achieve the target within the stipulated time.
Er. Gwatilo also encouraged the village functionaries to know their roles and responsibilities in maintaining the project.
At the programme, resource person from Salt Lake Institute of Engineering & Management Ltd, Kolkata (SLIEM) Skills, Dr. Biplab Ghosh stated that the aim of the training was to sensitise village functionaries about the concept of JJM and “Har Ghar Jal”, how to maintain traditional drinking water supply tap water connection, vision, mission, objectives, goals and opportunities under JJM, etc.
The inaugural programme ended with vote of thanks from PHED Wokha division, executive engineer, Er. Imnazulu Ao.
It may be mentioned that the training programme will culminate on October 20 and is being imparted by SLIEM.
