Four-Day Women Training on Facilitation Skills and Advocacy was conducted from June 26- 29 at Bangkok, Thailand organized by the Women of Asia Pacific Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (WAPN+), a working group under the umbrella of Asia Pacific Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (APN+) supported by the FORD Foundation.
Naomi president, Network of Naga People Living with HIV/AIDS (NNP+) represented India. During the training, she stressed on the issues of Women in India, particularly North East states where she underlined the capacity development plan and protection of Women Rights to provide a united voice, improve the quality of life of the women living with HIV/AIDS. She also took workshops on the objectives of increasing the capacity of HIV-positive women to take on leadership roles on the issues of Women.
The aim of the four-day training was to build women living with HIV’s knowledge and skills on becoming and being a good facilitator, in facilitating workshops in their own countries hence to stimulate the leadership skills among women living with HIV as well as to empower their peers to advocate for their needs. The skills included presentation from all the countries present the training, facilitation techniques, assertive behavior, body language, developing the message or session, communication with the audience, dealing with decision makers, and making use of media.
The workshop was attended by representations from 11 countries affected by women living with HIV/AIDS such as the Asia Pacific region, India, Laos, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, China, Fiji, Thailand, Nepal, Guam, Philippines and Hong Kong.
