State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) conducted a three-day training programme on “Scientific Management of Pond & Fishery Based Integrated Farming System in NE” from October 9 to 11 at Medziphema.
The programme aimed to enhance the skills of ATMA functionaries in scientific fishery management, integrated farming, and value addition in fish.
The inaugural session was chaired by Janet Chishi, deputy project director, SAMETI. In his address, director SAMETI and principal IETC, Medziphema, Bodevi Shuya, encouraged participants to actively engage in the training and reflect on self-sustainability and efficiency by supporting farmers in entrepreneurial ventures.
Topics covered during the training included scientific management and opportunities in fisheries, aquapreneurship, aqua rearing setup and management, integrated fish farming practices, and success stories in fish value addition. A field visit to Imchen Aquatics was also organized, where participants observed demonstrations on Australian Red Claws farming, Tilapia farming, and Recirculating Aquaculture System.
Resource persons included Imtisunep, District Fishery Officer, Dimapur; Yanrangjang Imchen, entrepreneur and proprietor of Imchen Aquatics; C. Dory Yanthan, District Fishery Officer and Project Director (ATMA), Peren; and Shelly, women entrepreneur.
During the valedictory session, feedback was shared by Muziselu Ringa, BTM Tuensang, and Raveyi Khesoh, ATM Phek. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Yezaho Swu, deputy project director, SAMETI, followed by distribution of certificates to participants.
