Training on HIV and AIDS Act 2017

DIMAPUR

A one-day training programme on the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Act 2017 was conducted on August 7 at the Conference Hall, District Hospital Zunheboto, for doctors, nurses, lab technicians, counsellors and other hospital staff.
The training was jointly organised by the DISHA Unit Zunheboto, Hezukhu Memorial District Hospital Zunheboto, and Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority, with support from the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) and the Legal Services Authority.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. K. Akaho Sema, Senior Specialist, emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive and stigma-free healthcare environment. He highlighted the dual responsibility of healthcare providers in both controlling the spread of HIV and AIDS and safeguarding the rights of patients and medical personnel.
Easter H. Yepthomi, Retainer Lawyer, Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority, served as the resource person and presented key provisions of the HIV and AIDS Act 2017. She explained that the Act aims to prevent and control HIV and AIDS, uphold the human rights of affected individuals, and ensure confidentiality of HIV status, with disclosure limited strictly to necessary healthcare providers. She also outlined legal protections available to medical professionals under the Act.
An interactive session followed, allowing participants to seek clarifications and share experiences related to HIV and AIDS care and legal responsibilities.
The session was chaired by Livi N. Yepthomi, ICTC Counselor, DH Zunheboto, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Jubit. K, District Supervisor, DISHA Zunheboto.
