Training on horticulture processing, value addition concludes in Wokha

The valedictory and certificate distribution programme for the five-day hands-on training on horticulture processing and value addition was held at KVK Wokha on April 24 under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) initiative.
The training, aimed at establishing a mini food processing laboratory and promoting skill development among tribal SHGs and FPOs, was organised for the welfare of tribal women, aspiring entrepreneurs, and students. Participants included HSLC students on vacation and married women.
Course director Dr. Sandeep Deshmukh, senior scientist and head, ICAR-KVK Wokha, led the programme, while Skill Development Officer, Wokha, Anuranjan Singh, attended as special guest.
Programme assistant and technical officer (Food Technology), Thungchano Ezung, informed that the training began on April 20 with theoretical sessions followed by practical demonstrations.
Certified food processor Lily Humtsoe of Yuthi Delights showcased banana chip preparation, while Merizali Kikon of Dream Bakes conducted baking sessions introducing perilla cookies and other value-added products.
Subject matter specialist (Home Science), Dipa Singh, guided trainees in preparing banana-based juice, jam, candies, and peach-based items.
The fourth day focused on underutilised crops, with products such as sumac candy and nutrition bars prepared alongside lessons on post-harvest management.
Special guest Anuranjan Singh encouraged trainees to be innovative, stressing the importance of quality packaging, labelling, and scientific presentation to attract consumers.
He assured support in marketing and access to financial resources for viable ventures, urging participants to form groups for collective profitability and explore markets beyond Wokha.
Trainees expressed gratitude to the organisers, stating that the programme provided valuable skills in baking, chip-making, and scientific food processing, and conveyed interest in pursuing further training and entrepreneurial ventures.
