Training on persimmon cultivation

Two-day training on persimmon cultivation at Horticulture Research Farm (HRF) Pfutsero under Phek district culminated on July 26.

A press release by horticulture officer, Senti Longchar, stated that the training was first of its kind organised by HRF in collaboration with the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) Medziphema.

In a keynote address, in-charge director CIH Medziphema, Dr N K Patle, said Pfutsero has a huge potential for development of temperate fruits like kiwi, peach, plum, pears, apple and persimmon. 

He encouraged the department and the district administration to organise a mega event of buyers and sellers meet so as to create more exposure and opportunities for the farmers.

ADC Pfutsero, Zeneikhonuo Vimero, exhorted the participants to seriously take up projects and continue to uplift the economy of the farming community. 

Resource person of the training, assistant chief technical officer, Horticulture, KVK Phek, Dr Rinku Bharali, spoke on the nursery management, propagation, cultivation techniques and value addition of persimmon fruit.  

 The training concluded with distribution of certificates to about 100 famers by DHO Phek, Moalemba.
