Training on prevention of wildlife crime

Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, in collaboration with Wildlife Trust of India and supported by Wildlife Conservation Network’s Pangolin Crisis Fund, organized a three-day “Wildlife Crime Prevention Training” from February 4 to 6, 2025.


A total of 42 participants from both wildlife and territorial divisions attending the training, held on various aspects of wildlife crime prevention and laws. A press release by Wildlife Warden, Dimapur, H Tokaho Kinimi, informed that delivering key note address, Chief Wildlife Warden, Nagaland, Vedpal Singh, stressed the importance of professional competence in handling and prevention of wildlife crime in Nagaland.


He also extended support towards forest officials who were enthusiastic and looking forward to further excelling and enhancing their skill sets in the field of Wildlife Crime Control and Investigation.


Conservator, Forest, and Director, Intanki National Park, Ao Chuba, also encouraged participants to utilize the training to acquire knowledge on the technical aspects of wildlife crime, while Wildlife Warden, Dimapur, Tokaho H Kinimi, shared various on ground challenges that the division faces during the investigation as well as in the court.


Pradipty Bhardwaj, a legal and cyber expert from Trayata Wildlife Foundation, interacted with participants on amended Wild Life Protection Act, 1972, CITES, due process of law during the investigation, and drafting of legal documents. The legal sessions were complemented by practical sessions on evidence collection, forensics, and crime scene investigation led by Senior Field Officer, Wildlife Crime Control Division of the Wildlife Trust of India, Monesh Singh Tomar.
