Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Nagaland, conducted a one-day training on price statistics at the Directorate’s Conference Hall on July 1, with secretary of Economics and Statistics, Akunu S. Meyase, as the special guest.
In his introductory remarks, director Neidilhou Keditsu highlighted the department’s development of three key indices—Consumer Price Index (Urban, Rural and Combined), Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers, and the Wholesale Price Index. He said price indices play an important role in policy formulation, and for the first time, the department would estimate district-level CPI to support better decentralised planning.
Speaking at the event, Meyase emphasised the significance of price statistics and its relevance to everyday life.
She said data collected from districts formed the core for estimating price indices in the state and urged data collectors to ensure accuracy by sourcing from the right places.
She encouraged the trainees to maintain high standards in their work and to take the training seriously by learning the proper methodologies and mechanisms for data collection.
The training was attended by all District Economics and Statistics Officers, price data collectors from both urban and rural centres, and officials from the Directorate. The programme was chaired by Deputy Director Kezhalelhou Solo.
