A two day-long intensive training and field inspection was conducted by All India Coordinated Research Project on Spices, Nagaland Centre, Department of Horticulture, SAS:NU from September 21 and 22 at Socunoma village and Bade village.
Selected family members under TSP-Spice programme participated and equipped themselves about advance production technology of ginger and turmeric.
Resource person, assistant professor Dr. Graceli I Yepthomi encouraged the farmers to integrate traditional and scientific approach to generate higher production and productivity. She also emphasized the adoption of modern technologies to increase productivity, prevents soil degradation, reduce wastes and promotes sustainability.
During interactions, participants learnt different aspects of sustainable production and primary processing of turmeric and ginger.
They were also taught on how to manage and reduce the pest and disease infestation. Project-in-charge, Prof. C.S.Maiti motivated the farmers to achieve higher production in order to be able to market the produce to different parts of the country and assured the farmers to extend the technical help in assisting them.
An onsite visit and inspection was also carried in various farmer’s field where the problems prevalent in their area were discussed.
Meanwhile, ginger and turmeric growers from both the village expressed gratitude and appreciation to scientists AICRPS for their concerns and initiative to uplift the spice growers.
