Training on protected cultivation

A six-day training programme on “Protected cultivation of High value vegetables”, under Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY), National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), was conducted from March 25 to 30 at KVK Longleng, organized by ICAR-KVK Longleng. 

A press release from ACTO (Horticulture), KVK Longleng course director, RK Roshan, stated that during the training programme, resource persons from different disciplines gave lectures and demonstrated different aspects of protected cultivation of High-Value Vegetables. 

The resource persons were KVK Longleng senior scientist and head, Dr. KL Meena; SRF, A Namei; KVK Longleng ACTO (Horticulture), Dr. RK Roshan; KVK Longleng program assistant (Home Science), Thungchanou E; assistant professor & head, Dr. Mithilesh Kumar Jha; and agriculture officer Longleng, C Amei Phom.

The topics covered started from vegetable nursery establishment, followed by different methods of propagation, use of plastic in horticulture, production of various high value vegetables crops, vegetable base Integrated Farming Systems, bee keeping, composting, protected cultivation using low cost poly houses and poly tunnels, value addition and post-harvest technology of various high value vegetables crops etc. 

Besides being discussed, practical demonstrations were also shown, the release stated.
