Training on ‘SAANS’ conducted in Kohima

Office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Kohima along with district health society, department of health & family welfare (H&FW), NHM conducted district level training for medical officers (MOs), CHOs and nurses on “Social Awareness and Actions to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully” (SAANS) on July 8 at Para Medical Training Institute (PMTI).
In a press release, office of the CMO Kohima informed that resource persons for the training, pediatrician, community health centre (CHC) Chiephobozou, Dr. Akatoli Angto and MO, primary health centre (PHC) Mezoma, Dr. Ruyangulie Paphino emphasised on three aspects – “Prevent, Protect and Treatment”.
Trainees were imparted on effective solutions for pneumonia prevention such as breastfeeding, age appropriate complementary feeding, immunisation, and good quality air. Altogether 38 participants attended the training.
It may be noted that SAANS campaign, initiated by the government aims to reduce child mortality due to pneumonia by 2025 to less than 3 deaths out of 1000 live births. It also aims to train health personnel to provide prioritised treatment to control the disease.
