Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) conducted training on “scientific beekeeping” on July 27 at Lengnyu Village, Noklak district.
According to a DIPR report, resource person from NBHM, Phem Shiu, while emphasizing the importance of beekeeping, highlighted its potential as a source of income generation for livelihoods. He encouraged all the beekeepers, especially those from Lengnyu village, to work harder and adopt modern techniques of scientific beekeeping to produce more honey of superior quality. He assured the support of NBHM in every possible way to the beekeepers.
Another resource person from NBHM, Francis Kikon, during the training, explained the benefits of using scientific beekeeping boxes, which could yield more honey and enable multiple harvests in a year. He delved into the behaviour of bees and the modern methods of beekeeping.
The training also covered post-harvest management of honey and its packaging. Special attention was given to techniques for producing more honey and extracting it efficiently with the help of machinery, without causing harm to the bee hives.
The training provided hands-on experience to all the participants, and the beneficiaries received scientific bee boxes and other necessary equipment.
