Training on soil health management, card

A two-day training on “soil health management and soil health card in agriculture” was organised by State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) on February 1-2 for Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) at SAMETI, Medziphema.
In a press release, SAMETI informed that the training was aimed at equipping the trainees with technical know how about soils in Nagaland and their management through sustainable improvement and conservation practices.
Resource persons for the training were scientist (soil science), ICAR NER, Jharnapani, Nagaland, Dr. Christy B.K. Sangma and senior research fellow, ICAR Nagaland, Dr. Rokozeno Chalie-u.
The resource persons spoke on topics of acid soil management, soil conservation measures, soil health card, concept of soil health management and management practices to improve soil health
A field trip to laboratory at ICAR, Jharnapani Medziphema was undertaken where, scientist ICAR, Jharnapani Dr Christy B.K. Sangma conducted a demonstration on soil sample collection and Soil analysis.
The trip was followed by discussion and interaction with joint director, ICAR Jharnapani, Dr D.J. Rajkhowa.
The valedictory function was chaired by DPD SAMETI, Janet Chishi while feedback on the training was given by BTM, Dimapur Demalu Hasnusa and BTM, Kohima Mvudzeviu Shuya.
In her valedictory speech, director SAMETI & Principal IETC Dr. Watimongla Jamir said that soil testing and soil management were the most important factors for ensuring overall agricultural growth.
She encouraged the participants to always recommend crops to farmers based on the soil type of the area to avoid crop failure and economic loss. She remarked that soil should be conserved and managed efficiently as this entity is the main source of bringing food on the table for mankind.
The training programme concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants by Director SAMETI & Principal IETC while vote of thanks was proposed by Shri. Yezaho Swu DPD SAMETI.
