Training on value added fish products held at Phek, Meluri

DIMAPUR: Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Phek conducted a training programme on value added fish products for Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the Women Empowerment (Gender Budgeting) initiative 2026-27 at Phek Town on October 14. Around 20 women participants attended the programme.
The training aimed to equip women with practical skills in fish processing and value addition, enabling them to develop income generating activities using locally available resources with minimal investment and without specialised machinery.
District Fisheries Officer (DFO) Phek, Esther Angami, along with her team, provided hands on training in preparing fish based products such as fish pickle, fish fingers, fish balls, fish cutlets and fish soup. Highlighting the growing demand for ready to eat and easy to cook food items, she encouraged participants to diversify their product lines by including value added fish products. She noted that such initiatives could help women access new markets, increase earnings and strengthen entrepreneurship.
The programme sought to promote women’s empowerment, livelihood development and small scale enterprises in the fisheries sector.
A similar training programme was also conducted for SHG members at Meluri Town on October 15, with participants receiving the same practical exposure to fish processing and value addition techniques.
