Training on WebGIS portal and mobile application

A three-day training on PRA map exercise for selection of treatment areas and refresher training on WebGIS portal and mobile application for monitoring and collection of field data under Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) was organised at CKS Hall, Tuensang. 

According to a DIPR report, district forest officer (DFO) Tuensang, Samom Khelen Singh presented his views on the relevance of PRA map exercise and GIS and remote sensing on the opening day of the training.

Three experts including Anurag Verma, GIS expert PMC NFMP, Limasanen Longkumer and Anamoa Imsong GIS team members PMU NFMP presented various modules of these applications and described their uses.

A field visit to Kuthur village was also organised on September 2 for the collection of data for plantation under different modules, JFM and SHG activities and institutional strengthening with the help of a mobile app. The experts along with DFO, Samom Khelen Singh broadly discussed the different issues related to PRA Map Exercise and different modules of the WebGIS portal and Mobile application. The chairman, vice-chairman, and secretary of the Joint Forest Management Council (JFMC) were also present during these discussions.

The training was organised to improve the understanding of ground-level staff for collaborating the villagers in decision making through PRA map exercise and collecting forest-related data with the help of a mobile app.

It also helps key stakeholders on different monitoring and evaluation-related problems with the use of the WebGIS portal.

It may be mentioned that the WebGIS portal and mobile application are developed under the supervision of project director (M&E and IM), Vedpal Singh for concurrent monitoring and evaluation.

The training, assisted by Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) headed by the chief project director & CEO PCCF and HoFF, Dharmendra Prakash is a forestry intervention and biodiversity conservation project.

The project aims to focuses on different project works for livelihood improvement and forest community development.
