Various government departments and agencies organised different programmes to equip farmers with knowledge, insights, technology, and products so as to increase their productivity.
Dhansiripar block: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Dhansiripar block organised “Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE)” awareness programme and conducted within district farmers’ training to promote millets on the topic, “Rediscovering Millets: The good old Nutritional Powerhouse” at Community Hall, Bade Village on June 3.
During the programme, BTM, Moainla sensitised the participants on the concept of “LiFE”, introduced by the Prime Minister of India.
She said “LiFE” aims to promote sustainable living by encouraging individuals to make changes in their lifestyles and emphasise responsible and conscious use of resources to safeguard and conserve the environment that can contribute significantly to climate change.
Environmental awareness was created through screening of short video on “lifestyle for environment” and green talks were delivered regarding water conservation and importance of millets to the participants. The participants were also encouraged to adopt “pro planet” activities as part of mass mobilization of mission “LiFE”.
Resource person, Scientist, Agronomy, AICRP, SASRD, NU: Medziphema, Dr. Lowrence Kithan presented a detailed power point presentation and explained on importance of millets in human health, package of practices of millets and preparation of value-added products. He also briefed the participants about the strategies to enhance the improved millets production and motivated them to revive millets cultivation. The programme was attended by 22 farmers.
Tening Block: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Tening Block conducted demonstration programme on insect-pest management of vegetables on June 9 at old Tesen village, under Peren district.
During the programme, resource person, BTM Tening Block, Lily Tungoe highlighted the farmers on indigenous insect-pest control practices from using locally easily available materials, to protect the seeds, vegetative parts, and plants of vegetable crops.
In a separate event, the block conducted demonstration on post-harvest management of fruits and vegetables on June 9 at Old Tesen Village. Resource person, ATM, Rokozhalie Namdau gave a detailed presentation on the management of inter-cultural operation of vegetables and fruits to produce quality fruits and vegetables; to practice the right harvesting time and to handle the harvested fruits and vegetables with care during transportation, and to practice good packaging and store the harvested fruits and vegetables in dry gunny bags for longer preservation. Altogether, 15 farmers attended the demonstration programme
Agri Deptt: One day state level training on Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) in Oil Palm Farms was conducted by the department of agriculture in collaboration with Godrej Agrovet Limited on June 9 with extension head-NE of Godrej Agrovet, Lalruakima as the resource person. The programme was chaired by SMS, Ronchamo Kikon; keynote address was delivered by joint director of Agriculture, Z Hukhato Sema, and vote of thanks was proposed by deputy director of agriculture, Dr. Beremjungla.
