In their commitment to conserve environment, Assam Rifles organised a tree plantation drive on April 29 at Selouphe village, Dimapur.
According to PRO defence, the aim of this tree plantation drive was to make people aware about the importance of trees in their life and to save the endangered environment.
A total of 30 villagers including GBs, chairman of Selouphe village along with troops of Assam Rifles planted saplings of multiple varieties including medicine, fruit and flowering saplings, so as to achieve dual purpose of environment protection and soil conservation.
Meanwhile, the village authorities and locals appreciated the efforts undertaken by Assam Rifles to motivate them to keep the environment clean and green.
In another event, Assam Rifles paid tribute to Rifleman/General Duty (late) Jaman Singh at Unit War Memorial at Kohima, on April 27. Late Jaman made supreme sacrifice for the nation during an ambush in general area Jakphang under Mon district, on April 27, 1961.
At the wreath laying ceremony, a total of 4 officers, 18 JCOs and 106 ORs paid their rich tributes to the gallant soldier, who sacrificed his life battling against the insurgents in the line of duty. On the occasion, Commandant spoke to the family of braveheart Rfn/GD (late) Jaman Singh and conveyed gratefulness for the service rendered by fallen hero to the nation.
