Tree plantation drives undertaken by various organisations

YouthNet in partnership with Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Nagaland initiated a tree plantation drive under the theme, “Plant a tree, plant a hope for future” on June 1 at Made in Nagaland Expo Centre.  

Under this initiative, tree saplings were planted alongside the road from Nagaland civil secretariat area up to assembly. Divisional forest officer (DFO), Rongsenlemla Imchen gave a short speech and distributed the saplings. Rongsenlemla Imchen said it was important to plant a tree for the future and responsible to nurture and maintain whatever has been planted. While acknowledging YouthNet for taking initiative, she added that Forest department will not hesitate to coordinate with any NGOs, individual who shared similar vision.

Metseruyi Tetseo demonstrated on how to plant and students planted the saplings. Earlier, invocation was delivered by Kethoseno Rikha followed by special number from TM School. 

500 tree saplings was provided by Department of Environment Forests and Climate Change, Nagaland and mobilized by YouthNet for the participants.

LFCK: Youths of Lower Forest Colony Kohima (LFCK), under the initiative of Chubarenla Longchari, DYRO Kohima along with the help of the Lower Forest Youth Organization (LFYO) kicked off a campaign, “The Green Tribe” at Lower Forest Colony community hall, Kohima on June 1. 

According to DIPR report, the main objective was to activate young generation in protecting and preserving nature. Green Tribe is the brainchild of Chubarenla Longchari, DYRO Kohima, resident of Lower Forest Colony. Chubarenla Longchari encouraged the youths to stop blaming the government for all problems but rather take charge and ensure to come together as concerned citizens and as one tribe, and actively work towards a greener and cleaner Nagaland. 

Gaonbura of Lower Forest Colony expressed gratitude to Chubarenla Longchari and colony youths for the noble initiative. The programme concluded with planting of fruit trees donated by the Kohima district horticulture officer. 

RUSA, SCC Tuensang: Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) committee in collaboration with the Eco and Beautification committee of Sao Chang College (SCC) Tuensang carried out a plantation drive around the college campus. A press release from SSC, RUSA coordinator stated that a total of 200 saplings and a wide variety of flowers were planted. 

Students of certified vocational floriculture course offered by RUSA and boarders of boys hostel along with the committee members participated in the plantation drive.
