Trg on oral health for teachers, ASHAs

One day training on Oral Health Care and tobacco control for government school teachers and Urban Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA), was organised by National Oral Health Programme (NOHP), Department of Health and Family Welfare Wokha, at Conference hall of Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital, Wokha on December 8.
A press release by CMO Wokha stated that resource person, District Nodal Officer, NTCP Wokha, Dr. Daisy Ovung, said that oral diseases were preventable with proper oral hygiene and could be severed only in high risk cases. She also spoke on importance of oral health, risk factors for oral health, role of health workers and teachers to prevent it.
She further highlighted on ill effects of tobacco usage and adding that 43% of school students in the state were using tobacco against national average of 8.5%, as per Global Youth Tobacco Use Survey.
Dental Surgeon Dr Mhayani Jami, took session on common oral disease, periodontal diseases, dental decay process, risk factors, complications, early childhood caries, root canal treatment etc., while social worker, National Tobacco Control Programme, Mharhoni R Ezong, explained on usage of Tobacco Free Nagaland Application to school teachers.
Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Dr Thungbemo Patton urged the trainees to be attentive and impart whatever they have learnt to students at their respective schools, and ASHAs have been encouraged to disseminate information on oral health and tobacco control to public with help of colony chairman.
The release stated that training progamme commenced with Psychologist, National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) Wokha, Tshopeü Khütsoh, welcoming the trainees and highlighting on the aim of organizing the training.
