DIMAPUR, MAY 8 (NPN): Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH), Angami Youth Organisation Diphupar (AYOD), Chümoukedima Lotha Youth Organisation (CLYO), Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) and Western Zuketsa Area Public Organization (WZAPO) have strongly condemned the violent assault on Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation (WCYO) president and Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) advisor, Wekupe Therie, which occurred on May 2 at Naga United Village.
In condemnation note, WCH termed the incident “utterly appalling,” noting that it was allegedly committed by habitual offenders currently out on bail along with accomplices.
It described the assault as “street hooliganism” where a lone individual was brutally attacked, resulting in grievous injuries and damage to property. The Hoho raised concern over the growing presence of anti social elements and urged law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining accused. It cautioned against interference or leniency that may compromise justice, stressing that wrongdoers must face full consequences to deter future violence. WCH reaffirmed solidarity with WCYO and its members, pledging to stand united against intimidation and lawlessness.
In a press release, AYOD president, Neiphrezo Metha and general secretary, Vivo Zhasa denounced the attack as unacceptable in a civilized society and call upon authorities to ensure justice. It stated that acts of brutality, violence and intimidation have no place in a civilized society. AYOD urged the authorities to ensure justice and called upon all stakeholders to reject violence and promote unity.
AYOD also expressed solidarity with Therie and his family, offering prayers for his recovery. The organisation reiterated its stand that peace, dignity and mutual respect must guide community relations. CLYO also condemned the life threatening attack, describing the accused as a habitual offender and a threat to humanity. CLYO president Winnerson Lotha and general secretary Likao Odyuo urged stringent legal action against the offender and accomplices.
The organisation expressed solidarity with the victim, who is undergoing treatment, and appealed to residents to not harbour criminals but to voice out for justice and peace.
Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) in its strongest term condemned the brutal, cowardly, and inhuman assault committed upon Therie at Naga United Village. DAYO said the barbaric nature of attack, reportedly carried out by a group of unidentified miscreants, was not only an attack upon an individual leader but a direct assault on the very principles of peace, unity, and brotherhood that the Naga society has upheld through generations.
It added that such lawless acts of violence have absolutely no place in a civilized and democratic society and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms by every right-thinking citizen.
“No provocation or circumstance can ever justify taking the law into one’s own hands. The growing tendency of resorting to violence, intimidation, and jungle justice poses a dangerous threat to public peace, communal harmony, and the rule of law in our society”, DAYO stated.
It therefore urged the concerned law enforcement agencies and competent authorities to conduct a thorough, impartial, and time-bound investigation into the matter and ensure that all perpetrators involved are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted strictly as per the provisions of the law without fear or favour.
It also appealed to all tribal bodies, youth organisations, civil society organisations, and responsible citizens to stand united against all forms of violence and criminal intimidation.
“At a time when the Naga people continue to aspire for peace, unity, and mutual coexistence, such shameful incidents only tarnish the image and dignity of our society”, DAYO said.
DAYO expressed solidarity with Wekupe Therie, his family members, and Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation during the painful and difficult time and prayed for speedy recovery.
WZAPO expresses its deepest outrage, describing the assault as attempted murder and vandalism of property.
WZAPO alleged that the attack was perpetrated by Inato Chishi, and his gang. Terming the act “heinous,” WZAPO stated that it shocks the conscience of every right thinking citizen and constitutes a grave assault on democratic leadership, peace and the rule of law.
It added that Chishi and his gang, already exposed as habitual offenders of similar crimes, have once again unleashed terror with impunity, endangering lives and undermining community harmony.
WZAPO expressed unwavering solidarity with Therie and other unreported victims of similar attacks, and demanded that law enforcement agencies immediately arrest the remaining culprits, prosecute them rigorously and deliver swift justice.
It warned that until the “hardened criminals” face the highest punishment befitting their offences, the situation cannot normalize.
The organisation further called for no leniency towards repeat offenders, stressing that the incident should serve as a clarion call that such lawlessness will not be tolerated.
