A two-month training programme under the Guru Shishya Hastakala Prashikshan Programme (GSHPP) was inaugurated on June 17 at Techahan Ward, Mon town. The programme focuses on tribal jewellery crafts under the National Handicrafts Development Programme (NHDP), Skill Development in Handicrafts Sector – Training.
According to a press release, Mon Deputy Commissioner, Wennyei Konyak, graced the inaugural programme and highlighted the role of the training in boosting income, productivity, and cultural preservation.
Altogether 30 artisans are participating in the training organised by the Ministry of Textiles, Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), HSC-Kohima.
Gaon Bura, Menton, also encouraged the trainees to take full advantage of the training, while Handicrafts Promotion Officer, Rajib Chandra Roy, spoke on the various welfare schemes available for artisans and their children.
Master craftsperson and State Awardee in Beadwork and Textiles, T. Patoi Konyak, said the training would help artisans in preserving and promoting traditional jewellery crafts in Mon.
