The Tribal Old Age Home cum Day Care Centre (TOAHDCC) observed International Day of Older Persons on October 12, by organising the Senior Citizens’ 3rd Festival of Praise Concert at Lorin Hall, Tetso College, Sovima, under the theme “Revitalize,” with chairman, TaFMA, Theja Meru, gracing the occasion as the guest speaker.
The event, which aimed to restore vitality, balance and well-being among the elderly community, also sought to showcase their talents and spirit through musical performances and moments of fellowship honouring senior citizens.
In his speech, Theja Meru emphasised on the importance of honouring and supporting elders not only through ceremonial gestures but also through daily expressions of care and inclusion. He appealed to help the elderly and to come together not only to express respect and gratitude but also to reaffirm collective responsibilities towards elders in everyday lives.
Earlier, TOAHDCC director Imlitongzuk Amri in his welcome note, shared the centre’s vision to establish Nagaland’s first Senior Citizens’ Music Club and to create a “Jamming Corner” for senior citizens after which a documentary on the journey of the Tribal Old Age Home Cum Day Care Center was screened. He also highlighted that the home currently shelters elders from diverse backgrounds, with the oldest resident being a 98-year-old woman whose life and spirit continue to inspire the community.
The concert featured a range of performances by senior citizens. Rev. Dirang Lungalang (67) opened with “Shoulders” by For King & Country followed by a rock rendition of “Canon D.” Tiala (71) moved the audience with “Come Spring,” while Rev. Hojevi Kappo rendered “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.” Ivukhu Chisho performed “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” on his self-invented indigenous instrument, blending tradition with innovation.
