
A teenaged-boy has taken up begging by walking up to people, offering them sweets and when they eat them, he would ask for his birthday gift.
On Thursday, reports were received that the boy had tricked many unsuspecting shoppers who were in various stores, to part with their money with the same modus operandi-offer them sweets and telling them that it was his birthday.
The boy was well dressed, fair complexioned, well groomed hair but outwardly exhibiting a shy and pleasing demeanour. The favourite hunting places were food corners in the busy Circular road area.
On Saturday, the boy was seen at a popular sweet shop and an ice cream parlour.
The boy even offered this reporter sweets claiming it was his birthday and begged for some money as birthday gift.
While most people tended to fall for the trick some reportedly threw back the sweets with warnings.
A senior citizen who felt sorry gave the boy Rs.100 while on another occasion, an elderly couple gave him Rs.200.The boy continues to operate in a blatant manner in the Circular Road area and it is up to the authorities to check the menace from the juvenile.
So far there was no definite information about the boy and where he came from but it was clear, that Circular Road was definitely his beat.
The activities of the boy do certainly pose a nuisance and is a constant menace to the innocent people.
If left unchecked such activities could spread and the consequences of which would be a high price to pay. There are also reports of many teenagers involved in minor offences throughout the city and society has to wake up to reform and rehabilitate such juvenile delinquents.
