Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Thursday informed that the issue of the proposed “Frontier Naga Territory”, would be based on tripartite talk between the Centre, state government and the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation’s (ENPO).
Addressing media persons on the sideline of the one-day emergent session of the NLA here, Rio disclosed that the Union Home Ministry representative AK Mishra and home secretary had all assured them that the Centre, state government and ENPO would be involved in all the discussions.
He also said that the ENPO delegation had met the state government on November 6, where both sides held a “good discussion”. He stressed that the matter was not a one man’s game and that the ball was in everybody’s court. He said the government had given its assurance on the five points and assured extending support. Rio however stressed that there should be no politics involved in the midst of the recent development in issue.
Asked when the tripartite talks would take place, he said the government was holding consultations and meetings were being held in this regard.
Apart from meeting him, Rio said the ENPO leadership had also met several other cabinet ministers and some advisers as well. On ENPO’s recent announcement to boycott the Hornbill Festival, Rio said the matter would be discussed.
Will take everyone on board, Rio on Municipal Bill: Rio assured that the state government would take everyone on board vis-à-vis the new Nagaland Municipal Bill, 2023.
He also said that the government would explain to any tribal body or civil society organisation that might be having any doubt on the matter.
Rio disclosed that the process for holding elections to the ULBs had just begun and that once notifications were out, the electoral process would start.
